Hi there,
I have recently built a new house and now I'm trying to figure out the best way of furnishing it. I'm trying to fit a kitchen, dining and living room in a space that doesn't give too many options. Please have a look at what I've been working on and let me know if there's something that I missed. I'm not really happy with the solutions that I found so far, so any tips will be highly appreciated.

this was meant to be a 'dining corner'. please ignore the fire place. the wall to the kitchen is only in my imagination.
living area=30sq meters
kitchen area=13 sq meters

as i said, the wall between the living and the kitchen does not exist now, it's just a thought

is there a wall and door that separates the kitchen from the living room?

you could find a square dining table to seat 4 or 8 people. it really depends on which way the sliding door opens. you can't have a dining table blocking an exit.

in my mind, i can't imaging building a custom house without planning furniture in advance. details like accent lighting over artwork, brass flush mounted power outlets in the concrete foundation for sofa tables ETC

great idea, joel. there's no partition between the kitchen and living room at the moment... i guess a drywall will do. i won't pick a sliding door, it's just not the right place for it. i'm gonna put a door on the right side, next to the staircase... and it's done. you're right, it's not so clever to build a custom house without planning the furniture in advance. it's just that the 'specialists' i had to work with (forced by some circumstances), proved to be a pain in the neck, ignoring many of my requests.

I hope it work out for you.

in the US, i can't even imagine having a wall with a door separating the kitchen from the living room.

sincerely,

Joel

yes, i know what you're saying. and i would've really liked having this generous open space.

... but i'm talking about europe here, freezing cold in the winter... people tend to build smaller rooms to heat them quicker. the first remark of one of my friends, when he saw my living room+the kitchen, unpartitioned-the way they are now: 2 bedrooms plus a living room can fit in this space. Embarassed

the living room + the kitchen = 50square meters, which is about 530 sq feet i guess.... how do you judge this area by you standards... small, decent, huge?

have a great time.

what if the wall dividing the kitchen from the living room had a cut out with art on one side and a table surface on the other.

when you wanted, you can lower the wall to a dining table level ? then store it in the upright position the rest of the time?

thanks for the tip. anyway, i think i'm gonna give up on the whole idea of partitioning the house. maybe i should simply try to get the best out of the open space that i've got. the dining table won't be blocking the way, and will make a nice transition from a place to another. there's no furniture inside the house at the moment, which makes it look large and cold. false impression, of course.
