Hello all

Sorry for spawning a new thread on this - I wanted to reply to some earlier posters who had mentioned the whole architecture / drawing thing, but the forum seems to have been upgraded, so I couldn't.

I am seriously considering applying to study architecture as a second degree - I'm 31. However, like some other people said, I also am not a great drawer. Its not that I'm not artistic - I think I have a good eye for design and I'd say I'm a reasonable amateur Question photographer. I like drawing plans and stuff, but I'm just not really that great at transfering what I see in front of me (a landscape / a still life) to paper. Some of the universities I have been looking at demand a portfolio as part of the application process and I'm concerned this might be a stumbling block for me.

My question is: How important is it to be able to draw well to study architecture? My own impression is that depends on the university - some seem quite arty, others more technical. I'm also wondering if perhaps I'm getting my knickers in a twist over nothing - OK - I'm no Da Vinci, but I'm not completely dire, and I can represent ideas on paper; maybe its just that I have a few friends who are real proper artists by profession, and I'm benchmarking myself agains them? Perhaps I should be thinking about benchmarking myself against the 18 year olds out of school that will make up the majority of the class!

Any thoughts on this matter greatly appreciated.

Embarassed We do B.Arch to be an architect not an artist Question

Its ok that you need to have some artistic skill for architecture but mind it, its ground level basics.

For persuing architectutre you need one thing the most and that is determination and if you have that then think of nothing and just jump over it and you will feel the difference.

Any skill you feel you lack can be developed.......go on.... Razz
