Do I need to upgrade PC? I currently run Pc 7.0.6 (build HI23) on OS 10.4 (powerMAc G5) but considering upgrading to 10.5 and want to make sure if my current PC version will run on the new OS (actually new intel MAC).
If I have to upgrade, what issues can I expect?
Thanks! |

The release notes from Engineered Software indicate that you will need to upgrade to PowerCADD 8 if you move to OSX 10.5. Here are the notes that were sent out with the latest release:
| Quote: | Changes for 8.0.12
Comments:
Neither PowerCADD version 6 nor version 7 are not expected to operate under the next major OS X operating System.
All versions of 6.x and 7.06 and under are NOT compatible and should NOT be used with System 10.5.x and up.
The preferred operating System for 7.0.6 is 10.4.11.
Version 8 PowerCADD works best under 10.5.x.

There have been many discussions on this forum regarding what issues you can expect when you move to PC8. I suggest you spend some time searching through what others have said.

I read those release notes myself.
My take:
I sometimes run PowerCadd 7 on my laptop which runs Leopard. It runs about as well (or as badly) as it did on Tiger.
On my G4 mac, I run PowerCadd 7 only since PC 8 does not run on PowerPC-based Macs.
If you are on a Power-PC based Mac, you cannot run PC 8. Should you upgrade to Leopard? I recommend against it. Leopard loads up a hard drive mercilessly with all sorts of material. Unless your hard drive exceeds 100 Gig, you might want to consider sticking with Tiger.
Bottom line- I suggest you don't upgrade anything. _________________ John Cruet

Is it a typo? Their web site says: "all versions of 6.x and 7.0.5 and under are not compatible" so I'm confused.
They recommend version 7.0.6 for OS 10.5

I would suggest to upgrade everything.
I quit my PM G5 2X2,7 / 2Go + PC 7 and went to IMAC 2x3,0 / 4Go + PC 8 and there is no comparison. The IMAC + PC8 is A LOT more efficient than G5+PC7.
But, ..... $$$ (€€€ in my case !) |

Re-reading his post, I noted that there was a question as to whether it was worth it to upgrade to an Intel-based mac as a part of the upgrade process.
I have done this myself and I strongly recommend it. Of course, economics and resources will drive such a decision.
Given that, then you should definitely run PC8. If you get a new Intel mac, then you will get whatever the latest Mac OS is. I still think that Leopard is it. _________________ John Cruet
