America - Two Continents or One Single Continent ?

How do you view it? Is America one large continent, or do we have two continents - South and North America ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent

Quote:
North America and South America are now treated as separate continents in India, China, and most English-speaking countries, such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.[citation needed] Furthermore, the concept of two American continents is prevalent in much of Asia. However, in earlier times they were viewed as a single continent known as America, with this viewpoint remaining common in the United States until World War II.[14] This remains the more common vision in Spain, Portugal and Latin American countries, where they are taught as a single continent.

Did Columbus discover America, or the Americas ?

(Really, Columbus was not the first to discover America, was he?)

Everyone has heard that he discovered America. It is not commonly said he discovered Americas.

The International Olympic Committee regards America as one single continent as well -->>

spam specialists view one less contient. So one's view or division of continents depends on one's cultural view. So who is the dumb one now ?

Continents of the World

Quote:
How Many Continents Are There?
Depending on how you count them, there are anywhere from 4 to 7 continents. The difference of opinion arises because some people consider Europe and Asia to be one continent, some people consider North and South America to be one continent, and a few people even consider Europe, Asia, and Africa to be one huge continent called Eurafrasia.
