Has anyone had PowerCADD files display contents with "Quick Look". I've noticed that some DWG files do (sort of, a horribly pixelated image) but not others. No PCADD files do for me.

Admittedly, I know nothing about computers, file types, programming, etc. My experience with Quick Look is that it only works with really popular applications (like PDF's, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc) or Apple created applications (like Pages, Numbers, etc). I'd assumed that it wouldn't work with PowerCADD or DWG's, and I just verified that that is correct for me (running OS 10.5.8, 17" intel core 2 duo, 2.33 GHz). I assume that for an application to be Quick Look compatible, it takes a little extra effort by the application's developers.

I am not sure if this is entirely correct, but it appears that Quick Look only works with files that have the ability to "show icon preview" (i.e. the files that have a thumbnail image of that particular files contents instead of a generic icon related to the application that created it).

One thing I do like about Quick Look is using it to look at those annoying powerpoint presentations that people feel compelled to email. Using Quick Look allows me to see the images, at my own pace, with out all the annoying disolves, music, etc.

regards,
patrick

ps to Peter: my wife and I leave for Kona on Wednesday. Our outrigger club has 5 crews heading over for Queen L. This is our first Queen L. race and I can't wait to get over there and paddle in Hawaiian water and bask in the island vibe.

Quick Look requires a Quick Look plug-in for each application and a change to how the files are 'bundled'. A reasonable thing to hope for in PC9.

Thanks for the replies.

To Patrick,

Well aloha and good luck. That's a wonderful race. Five crews--not bad. Doing it ironman or changing out?. Our club was Keoua and you'll be heading out from our beautiful home bay.

Kona's become pretty congested in recent years. Hope the Vog abates for you as well. Don't miss relaxing on the windward side while there.

At Puuhonua, check out the lava tube and remote swimming cove nearby, south of the coconut grove on the old Kings Highway... if you have any time left at all .

Peter

Thanks for the tips, Peter. We'll be racing iron. We are a bit concerned about the heat and humidity, but really looking forward to the trip!
