With the PowerCADD forum having made the switch to this forum format, I think I'd have to say that I miss the tendency for sub-topics to emerge and flourish within a thread.
This forum format doesn't lend itself to this because once a thread is started, every post is placed in chronological order. If you see part of a post by someone up the tree you can't respond to it directly. Instead you must reply at the bottom of the list.
The only options you have are to quote heavily and address your responses to the author of the particular post. This however, still doesn't capture the 'feel' of the sub-topic like the old format did. It is just too difficult (for me anyway) to jump over the posts relating to the original thread topic or alternative sub-topics that have developed.
I know you can always start a new thread but you almost need the ability to copy some of the relevant posts that helped develop the new topic. I guess they put the new topic in context.
There are many advantages to the new format and I wouldn't want to go back but if there was some way to enable sub-topics to spin off, it would be close to perfect for me.
